5/12/09: Crime and Safety Council Presents Deputy Chief Kozicki (see "Articles")

9/15/08

Questions and Answers to Officer Ricky Coglio:

  • What is a residential robbery? A residential robbery is where a house is burglarized, the victim is home and force or fear is used against the victim to remove items of value.
  • What are the addresses where the residential robberies occurred? (3600 block of Laguna Ave and 2000 block of Montana St)
  • Did the victims on Laguna suffer injuries? Yes they did.
  • How do the police deal with blighted properties that are possible magnets for crime? By working closely with the property owners and/or banks that may own them.  Michael Johnson of CM Quan’s office is the contact person to report vacant or foreclosed properties
  • Should residents be concerned about these incidents? No because the victims were targeted.
  • What is the difference between targeted and random? Targeted is where criminals specifically go to a house or location to obtain payment on some type of gambling or drug debt.
  • How do residents prevent their houses from being burglarized? Set the alarm whether home or not, place ladders and bins out of sight, lock all doors including doggie doors, use visual deterrents provided by alarm companies, cut back overgrown hedges and/or trees.
  • What about a home invasion robbery in Oakmore?  There were no home invasion robberies in the Oakmore area just several residential burglaries.
  • What time of day do burglaries normally occur? In the daytime. Criminals are under the belief that no one is home during the day.
